Everyone is eagerly awaiting the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, and the dedicated captain and wicket keeper of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sanju Samson is reportedly set to join the Delhi Capitals (DC). Following this, the franchise is planning to trade Tristan Stubbs to the Rajasthan Royals. The discussion comes just a month ahead of the mini-auction.

According to multiple reports, the trade discussions with RR and DC came up with a player swap scheme. Delhi Capitals are planning to secure Samson’s services as a middle-order batter and wicketkeeper; likewise, the young South African all-rounder Tristan Stubbs will move from DC to RR.  Rajasthan also asked for an additional uncapped player, but Delhi refused that request.  Even though it’s not officially confirmed but discussions among fans are growing rapidly.

Sanju Samson’s journey with the Rajasthan Royals started in 2013 as an 18-year-old prodigy. He debuted under former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid. Samson had earned the Emerging Player award with 206 runs and six stumpings. He has played 149 matches and became the top run-scorer (4027 runs), with three centuries. As captain, he helped Rajasthan to the IPL 2022 final. The decision to move the team will impact the end of his long stint with Rajasthan. Samson had a brief stint with the Delhi Daredevils in 2016–17. He played 2 seasons and contributed a few match-winning knocks.  For Samson’s Future, playing for Delhi will be a fresh start for him and can make an impact for the team. He can showcase his ability for a new franchise, which will attract the attention of national selectors.

The settlement was taken where Samson’s captaincy and retention have come under review. Delhi needs an experienced wicketkeeper-batter and leader for the team's flexibility. Meanwhile, Indian Test opener KL Rahul’s name was also mentioned in the trade talks, but Delhi is willing to keep him for the next season. Rajasthan has considered other options for Sanju Samson with other teams.  The Royals suggested the Samson-for-Jadeja swap, but didn’t consider the talk. As of now, Samson’s move to Delhi and Stubbs's to Rajasthan are still being discussed. Officials are expected to give an update in the coming days.
