Mumbai, August 19, 2025, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the 15-member Indian women's cricket team for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in India from 30 Sep to 2nd Nov. The team will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy. The squad announcement was made after a meeting of the selection panel chaired by Neethu David in Mumbai. The selectors also named six reserves and confirmed that the same squad will play the three-match ODI series against Australia in September as part of India's final preparations.

Key Selections and Omissions

The most notable exclusion from the squad is Shafali Verma, who has not been picked despite being a regular part of India's batting setup in recent performances, which were inconsistent. She managed a high score of 75 against England but struggled in the Australia A series with scores of 3, 3, and 41. The selectors chose to retain the opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, who have been in strong form.

Renuka Singh Thakur, India's leading pace bowler, returns after recovery from injury. Out since March, her availability was subject to fitness assessments, which she passed. She will share the new ball duties with Arundhati Reddy.

All-rounder Amanjot Kaur returns despite a back injury with workload management planned. Rising pacer Kranti Guard earns her maiden World Cup call after a six-wicket haul in England. Deepti Sharma, Sneha Rana, Radha Yadav, and Shree Charati form India's spin core, while Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia strengthen wicket-keeping and batting depth.

The tournament opens with India vs. Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on September 30, while Pakistan matches will be in Colombo. India (2005, 2017) seeks their maiden World Cup title at home.
